What should I look for when hiring a lie detector examiner?
Taking a lie detector test is a big decision, you need to trust that the person testing you has trained
professionally and is keeping their knowledge updated. Below is a set of questions you should ask
about the company or examiner who is proposing to administer your test.
· Is the examiner professionally trained at a polygraph school accredited by the American
Polygraph Association? Ask to see their certification, if they cannot or will not produce
certificates they are not qualified! Never hire a polygraph examiner who cannot prove that he/she
has been trained at a polygraph school accredited by the American Polygraph Association.
· Is the examiner a member of the American Polygraph Association?
· Has the examiner continued his/her education? Remember being trained 20 years ago was fine
20 years ago, but techniques and instruments have changed. Ask what updated training they have
undertaken, experience is not enough on its own
· Does the examiner use modern computerized instruments?
· Is the examiner a member of their state, or national polygraph association?
You can always contact the British Polygraph Association, or the American Polygraph Association
to confirm an examiner's memberships and training.
